The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released September 2021 Consumer Price Indexes (CPI) today. The all items index rose 0.3% in the last month and increased 5.4% in the last twelve months. Commodities, less food and energy commodities, increased 0.1% from August 2021 and rose 7.3% from September 2020. Food increased 0.8% in the last month and rose 4.6% in the last twelve months. Bakery products increased 1.5% since August 2021 and rose by 3.2% from September 2020. Meats, poultry, fish + eggs increased by 1.7% in the last month and rose by 10.5% in the last twelve months. Fruits and vegetables rose by 0.6% since August 2021 and increased 3.0% from September 2020. Nonalcoholic beverages and beverage materials rose 1.2% in the last month and increased 3.7% in the last twelve months. Juices + nonalcoholic drinks rose 1.6% from August 2021 and increased 3.9% from September 2020. Carbonated drinks rose 1.8% in the last month and increased 5.3% in the last twelve months. Coffee increased 1.1% from August 2021 and rose by 4.0% since September 2020. Fuel oil + other fuels increased 4.3% in the last month and rose by 36.0% in the last twelve months. Household furnishings + supplies increased 1.4% from August 2021 and rose 4.8% since September 2020. Appliances increased 1.6% in the last month and rose by 7.1% in the last twelve months. Major appliances rose 0.4% from August 2021 and increased 9.6% since September 2020. Household paper products increased 1.3% in the last month and rose 5.3% in the last twelve months. Apparel increased 1.8% from August 2021 and rose 3.4% from September 2020. New vehicles increased 1.0% in the last month and rose 8.7% in the last twelve months. Used cars + trucks decreased 3.7% from August 2021 and increased 24.4% from September 2020. Motor vehicle parts + equipment rose 0.8% in the last month and increased 6.9% in the last twelve months. Tobacco + smoking products rose 0.7% from August 2021 and increased 6.7% since September 2020.
