The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released February 2023 Consumer Price Indexes (CPI) today. Highlights are as follows (all indexes are on a seasonally unadjusted basis):
- All items saw no change in the last month and rose 6.4% in the last twelve months
- Food at home increased 0.6% from January and rose 13.0% from February 2022
- Cereals + bakery products rose 0.9% in the last month and increased 16.2% in the last twelve months
- Meats, poultry, fish + eggs increased 0.2% since January and rose 9.0% from February 2022
- Dairy + related products increased 0.5% in the last month and rose 15.9% in the last twelve months
- Fruits + vegetables rose by 1.4% from January and increased 10.4% from February 2022
- Other foods decreased 0.2% in the last month and rose 15.2% in the last twelve months
- Energy commodities decreased 5.4% from January and rose 19.7% since February 2022
- Gasoline (all types) fell by 5.6% in the last month and rose 18.2% in the last twelve months
- Commodities, less food + energy commodities, decreased 0.3% from January and rose 6.6% since February 2022
- Apparel rose 2.2% int he last month and increased 5.5% in the last twelve months
- New vehicles rose 0.4% from January and increased 9.4% since February 2022
- Used cars + trucks decreased 4.2% in the last month and rose 7.2% in the last twelve months
- Motor vehicle parts + equipment rose 0.8% from January and increased 13.4% since February 2022
- Medical care commodities decreased 0.1% in the last month and rose 3.7% in the last twelve months
- Alcoholic beverages rose 0.1% in the last month and increased 4.1% in the last twelve months
- Tobacco and smoking products increased 0.2% from January and rose 8.2% from February 2022
- Personal care products rose 0.4% in the last month and increased by 6.5% in the last twelve months
