The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released August Producer Price Indexes (PPI) today. Highlights are as follows (all indexes on a seasonally unadjusted basis):
- Farm products decreased 4.3% in the last month and decreased 11.8% in the last twelve months
- Processed foods + feeds increased 0.2% from July and fell 0.8% since August 2022
- Textile products + apparel decreased 0.9% in the last month and fell by 2.4% in the last twelve months
- Fuels, related products + power increased 9.3% since July and decreased by 12.5% from August 2022
- Chemicals + allied products decreased 1.1% in the last month and fell 7.3% in the last twelve months
- Rubber + plastic products decreased by 0.1% from July and fell by 3.0% since August 2022
- Lumber + wood products decreased 1.3% in the last month and fell 10% in the last twelve months
- Pulp, paper + allied products saw no change since July and fell 0.9% from August 2022
- Metals + metal products increased 0.8% in the last month and decreased 4.1% in the last twelve months
- Machinery + equipment rose 0.1% from July and increased 4.7% since August 2022
- Furniture + household durables rose 0.1% in the last month and increased 2.8% in the last twelve months
- Nonmetallic mineral products saw no change since July and increased 5.7% from August 2022
- Transportation equipment saw no change in the last month and increased 2.2% in the last twelve months
- Miscellaneous products rose 0.5% from July and increased 5.5% since August 2022
